Red against white. Scientists have found out which wine is less harmful

Traditionally, red wine is considered useful than white, since it has many bioactive substances. But, according to medical statistics, not everything is so clear. A group of scientists who published a study in the Nutriants journal tried to answer this question.

The fact that there are few such substances in white fault, even its color speaks: polyphenols give the drink dark red and burgundy tones. Resveratrol acquired special attention of scientists. He has a lot of useful properties, including anti -cancer, confirmed in many studies and experiments.

But recently, studies have appeared that showed that there is no useful dose of wine and that even with moderate consumption it contributes to the development of cancer. Not all scientists accepted this, but a serious blow was inflicted on the image of natural wine as a useful drink.

No differences were found …

A group of scientists from Brown and Harvard Universities decided to check if wine is to blame for the development of different types of cancer and which one is worse in this regard. They conducted the so -called meta -analysis. The 42 previous studies were collected in which this problem was studied. When their data was combined, it turned out that they have information on 96 thousand people.

After analyzing it again, they came to the following conclusion: “We did not find differences in the relationship between the general risk of cancer and the consumption of red or white wine, which casts doubt on the widespread opinion that red wine is more useful than white.”

In addition, the study also did not find increased risk of cancer in the use of any wine, regardless of its type. Fans of natural dry wine will surely appeal this, as it is contrary to data published in recent years.

But there are still differences

But it is worth noting that one difference between wines of different colors was still discovered. White wine increased the risk of skin cancer by 22 %. But scientists did not include this information into the final conclusions, only clarifying that it “requires further study.”

“We conducted a comprehensive meta -analysis to evaluate whether red wine is really a healthier choice than white wine,” says his study Associate Professor of the Department of Epidemiology and Dermatology of Braunov University Yunyan Cho. – Our analysis included as many published epidemiological studies as possible, which separately studied the connection between the consumption of red and white wine with the risk of cancer. The results did not reveal a significant difference in the risk of cancer between red and white wine as a whole. However, we observed the difference when it was the risk of skin cancer. In particular, the consumption of white wine, but not red, was associated with an increased risk of skin cancer. ”
