2. Ritalin La Capsules

The modified release capsules of Ritalin LA contain 10, 20 30 or 40 mg methylphenidate hydrochloride, usually indicated for the treatment of ADHD in children, adolescents or adults.

The posology of the recommended ritalin is:

  • ADHD in children over 6 and adolescents: The recommended initial dose is 10 to 20 mg of Ritalin La, once a day.
  • ADHD in adults: The recommended initial dose is 20 mg, once a day.

The maximum dose of Ritalin La for the treatment of ADHD in children over 6 years old and adolescents should not exceed 60 mg per day. For adults the maximum daily dose is 80 mg.

If necessary, the Ritalin La capsule can be opened and its content mixed with food, such as apple juice, for example.

Possible side effects

The most common side effects of ritalin are:

Ritalin is also contraindicated for people with glaucoma, feochromocytoma or Tourette syndrome.

Nor should it be used during treatment with monoamino oxidase (MAOA) inhibitors, or within at least 2 weeks of discontinuation of treatment due to the risk of hypertensive crises.
