Aspirin is surprising: such an ancient medicine has side effects, and is still widely used. Can replace with something new? To whom is it contraindicated?
Answers AIF.RU Candidate of medical sciences, doctor-therapist and gastroenterologist Konstantin Spakhov:
– The medicine is really ancient, it is 126 years old these days – the patent for it was issued on March 6, 1899. But the medicine turned out to be very successful. It is prescribed not only to reduce the temperature of the pain, but also for prevention – it protects cores from thrombosis and heart attacks, and people with a high risk of colorectal cancer – from this tumor.
The main side effect is gastrointestinal bleeding. Unfortunately, it is not possible to completely eliminate their risk in other drugs acting like aspirin. There are drugs that have less the risk of bleeding, but at the same time they begin to increase the risk of thrombosis.
This is because the ability of aspirin to cause bleeding is directly related to the therapeutic effect – with liquefied blood it prevents thrombosis and the same increases the risk of bleeding. This is just the case when the drug says: “One heals, and the other cripples.” Oddly enough, but behind these ironic words lies medical wisdom: helping in one, drugs can be harmful in another. Because of this, you need to choose the least evil to help the patient. Or, more simply, the risk of treatment should be less than the danger of the disease itself. And fortunately, this serious complication does not occur as often as many people think. Many millions of cores drink aspirin in small doses all their lives without experiencing such problems and really protect themselves – they live longer without heart attacks and strokes.
But if a person is prone to such bleeding, or has erosive-pissed lesions of the stomach and intestines, aspirin is contraindicated to him. It cannot be used with the so -called aspirin bronchial asthma. These are the main and absolute contraindications.
