11 Russian schools in seven regions of the country have closed due to an increase in the incidence of respiratory viral infections (ARVI), a representative of the press service of Rospotrebnadzor reported. For the same reason, four kindergartens in four regions of Russia were closed in the country, as well as 397 school classes and 163 groups of preschool children, seven groups in boarding schools and 12 groups in colleges, he specified.

According to the service, over the past week the incidence of ARVI in Russia has increased by 29.1% to 572,900 cases. Moreover, in the first week of 2025, the number of such cases decreased by 50.4% compared to the last week of last year, to 307,900 people. According to the results of the second week of this year, their number increased by 31.9%, that is, to approximately 406 thousand people.

The incidence of COVID-19 also increased in the third week of this year, namely by 2.8% to 9,600 cases, said an employee of the press service of Rospotrebnadzor. During this time, 1,120 people with Covid were hospitalized, the operational headquarters for the fight against coronavirus infection reported. According to him, the incidence of Covid is growing for the second week in a row. Thus, from January 6 to January 12, the number of infected people increased by 7.9%, the operational headquarters specified.

Here’s what he said about it Assistant at the Department of Polyclinic Therapy of ICM RNRMU named after. N. I. Pirogova, therapist at the educational, sports and health complex of the Russian National Research Medical University, Ph.D. Oleg Morunov:

— At present, it is difficult to name the true reasons for the rise in the incidence of ARVI; perhaps they are due to climatic conditions and a decrease in collective immunity. The rapid increase in incidence most often occurs in megacities; this is due to population density and the frequency of contacts between sick and healthy people. Children are always at risk for the incidence of ARVI and influenza, in particular children of preschool age and primary school. It is quite presumptuous to give a forecast for a decrease in the incidence rate; it is important to remember that at the first signs of the disease you must consult a doctor, carefully and regularly carry out hygiene measures (washing hands, wet cleaning of premises, etc.), and use personal protective equipment. Particular attention should be paid to annual influenza vaccination.
